US insurance group raps Toyota Camry in new crash test
DETROIT, Dec 20 — Toyota Motor Corp’s best-selling 2013 Camry received a “poor” crash-test rating today from an insurance industry group that awarded high marks to Honda Motor Co’s redesigned Accord sedan.
The Camry — the top-selling passenger car in the United States for 14 of the past 15 years — and the Accord were among a group of 2013-model midsize cars tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a non-profit group funded by the insurance industry.
“Toyota engineers have a lot of work to do to match the performance of their competitors,” IIHS said in a statement released today with the latest crash-test results.
